a whole bunch of randomness

(Seriously, what is wrong w/ Blogger? All my paragraphs get mushed together and the spacing is all off! This happens way too often to me!!!)
Hi, I'm Ashley, and I'm a Facebook addict. I know I'm an addict because other things in my life are being punished for my addiction. One of which, my blog. Secondly, cleaning. That's about it. I love the applications on FB, such as, Farm Town and Bejeweled. Bejeweled is just downright wrong. You get one minute and that's it. The minute flies by so fast, but you keep going back for more. Soon, I look up at the clock and it is past 11 and I have been playing for almost 2 hours! What?! How does a minute long game turn into 2 hours worth of playing. You got me.
The other setback I seem to run into is when I sign into blogger. I realize that I'm way behind on reading other blogs, so I decide to do that first. Bad idea. By the time I'm done catching up, my attention has turned onto FB again. I also find it very difficult to update my blog when it has been forever because I don't know where to start. Then, the thought of uploading all these pictures that are already on FB makes me sleepy.

Let's start with this weekend. It's the most recent and then I can work my way back. Saturday was a fun filled day. Carly, Lexi and I went to the zoo to check out the tigers. We went in the morning and I couldn't have asked for better weather. We must have gone at a good time because we were able to see the tigers being fed and doing tricks. Then, the gorillas were feeling energetic and wrestled and chased each other around their compound. I've never seen so much action out of all the times I've been to the zoo.

They were just staring at each other!

The tiger exhibit is very cool!

Lexi picked out this tiger from the gift shop. He has velcro on his paws and she loves to wrap it around her body. I think this picture is adorable - her expression is cute.

One of Lexi's best buds, Riley, turned one Wednesday. Her birthday party was at Eastborough park Saturday afternoon. We were about 45 minutes late since Lexi was still sleeping till almost 4pm! The party was in full force and we got there just in time to see Riley finish her birthday cupcake. Sugar Sister's strawberry....yummy! I had never been to this park before, but it was so pretty! I wish I would have taken my camera. We will definitely have to go again to play. Lexi really enjoyed looking into the water and there were geese and ducks all over the place. She got a kick out of watching them too.
It was about time to go and I hear Lexi say "SHOE!". As I turn to look at her, I see something fall into the water. She had put her leg between the bars and when she pulled it back through, her shoe fell off. This was my favorite pair that she has. They are gold gladiator sandals - super cute! They also aren't sold in-stores anymore, so I was sad for a minute. Riley's family even had a fishing pole and attempted to get it out of the water, but it attracted the ducks and then they started poking at it like it was bread! Well, I got home and looked online just to see if they were available there. Yeah, you know what's coming next. Found them. Paid for them. Waiting for them.

This is not from Riley's birthday, but from the daycare BBQ the Sunday before. It was nice to meet all the parents and see our kids interact. Lexi and Riley liked the hoola hoops.

Dave worked all weekend, so we just decided to relax as much as possible today (Sunday - that's the day I started this darn post). She played in the Kid Zone at the Y for 45 min while I went to the kickboxing class, but other than that we've been home having fun together. We're doing a super job of leaving the television off and playing with toys and reading books. We've been making a valiant effort to leave the TV off more often. Even if it just our shows or the news as background. I know Lexi is a smart cookie and I have nothing to worry about, but I still do. She hands me the remote when the TV is off and starts singing songs from the cartoons she likes. It is cute, but I do not like that she watches TV that often to know these things.
Lexi's vocabulary is far better than I ever expected. I know I've mentioned this before, but I just cannot believe the things she has learned already! I cannot even remember half of the words she says now, but some just from today are broccoli, lettuce, noodles and strawberry. The other day she said watermelon and it was so cute! Oh, and chicken! She loves to say and eat chicken. It's adorable, she calls any meat chicken. I made french dip sandwiches the other night and gave her some of the roast. Of course, it is "hicken". She devoured it though. I've never seen her eat any table food so fast! She kept asking for more and ate half of my meat! Her favorite food is yogurt (and maybe roast now too) and she will go to the fridge and tell me she wants yogurt. She knows how to open packages and bottles now too. I learned that when she opened up the bottle of lotion and got it all over the carpet!
Monday morning I was naming off all the kids to Lexi that she was going to see at daycare. I forgot to mention Peyton, but before I could say it she said "and Peyton". My jaw dropped! How the heck does she remember all of that? She also does simple things like throwing stuff in the trash. The reason I mention that is when I told her to go throw it in the trash, Dave said "she doesn't know how to do that". So, what did you think she did? That's right, she walked right by him and threw it (piece of junk mail) in the trash! Take that daddy! :)
Oh, another thing, that just blew my mind. Wait, did you read my title? Randomness is the word of the day so that is why I'm jumping around like crazy. Please follow along. Saturday morning I get home from my working about 9am. As I'm getting out of my car, Dave is walking out of the house. He says he's on his way to get his allergy medicine at Dillon's. He looks in my car and asks where Lexi is. I said she should be with you?!?! She was playing so quietly in her crib still that he hadn't notice she was in there. He almost left the house with her at home by herself! Lexi usually gets up by 8, so I'm, once again, shocked!
Here's some more randomness with pictures.
This is the very last outfit I have left from my mom. It's an 18 month romper and it says duck duck on the front (w/ duckies) and on the back it says goose! I never realized before this, but I don't say the word grandma a whole lot. Both of Lexi's grandma's have passed on and when we talk about our mothers, we just refer to them as "mom". Well, I told Lexi who got her this outfit and she quickly responded with the word "grandma" for the first time. :)
The laundry bed
Loves hats! She picked this one out of her closet and ran around the house with it on. It went so well with her dress!

We are also getting our house ready to put on the market. We own a rental home too and we'll either continue renting or sell it. We haven't decided yet, but we are certain that we need a bigger house. We only have 2 bedrooms right now and we are quickly growing out of this house. We've already found the house we want, which is a total bummer since our house isn't on the market yet. It's pretty safe to say we won't be getting that house. Unless, it sits on the market awhile. Fingers crossed! If we don't get that house, I hope we can get one just like it! It is beautiful. Split bedroom floor plan (my favorite), 4 bedrooms, full finished basement w/ wet bar and lots of storage space AND 3 car garage! Dave cannot seem to part with his first wife (his sports car), so we have 3 cars since that one doesn't have a backseat. So, we definitely prefer 3 car garages.
I started my advanced photography class last night and it was a lot to take in. We learned about aperture, ISO, shutter speed and how to manually work our camera. He said automatic is no longer an option now! Scary!!! We have several assignments for next week and I feel confused at the moment. I'm sure it'll sink in more as I do some of the assignments. Crystal (mom of triplets) is taking the class with me, so it's nice to see a familiar face. I will be posting some of my work up to get everyone's opinion! Whenever possible, Lexi will be my subject. :)
I hope everyone has an excellent week despite the humidity and the 100 degree weather. Until next time!

Great update Ashley! I was beginning to wonder where you had ran off too... like, maybe North Dakota to avoid this aweful humid heat we've been having:)

Your mention of Lexi wearing the last outfit your mom bought for her about made my heart sink. My mom bought an antique Barbie doll and gave me before she passed away saying "one day I'd have a girl to pass it on to"... and the girls found it this weekend. Doesn't it make you appreciate time with your daughter so much more?

I hope you enjoy the heat-wave... (I'm thinking a Wet & Wild Friday at the zoo sounds good right about now!). Take care and I can't wait to see new pictures!

Where do you take your photography class? I live in the Wichita area and would LOVE to learn more about taking better shots of my little one. BTW, love your blog...Miss Lexi is absolutely adorable! Thanks for your help!

I know Shelia. I wish I had something fun to say like I was in North Dakota lol. This weather is awful! I'd much rather be in, um, California! :)

That is such a sweet story about the antique Barbie doll. Our mom's sure were great and are greatly missed! Being a mom has made me realize the unconditional love my mom had for me. It's wonderful and I feel like I took it for granted till I had one of my own.

I've never been to a Wet & Wild Friday...what is that?

lbjayhawk79 - the photography class is at City Arts in downtown Wichita. If you google city arts and find their site, they have their class schedules there. Good luck!
