I'm back! Well, I got back Sunday, but I've been super busy just getting back into the swing of things. I went to visit my good friend,
Jenn, and her family. Dave wasn't too excited about the idea of traveling with Lexi, so he decided to stay home and was gracious enough to watch her for 4 days while I went! My other good friend, Andrea, accompanied me and boy, do we have stories! Do you want the good news or bad news first?
I'll just start with the bad. The bad occurred before we even reached
Las Vegas.
Never. Fly. Frontier. I thought I was doing the right thing by not flying
Allegiant and saving over fifty dollars for each ticket and who cares that there is a layover in Denver? We didn't. Until...we missed our flight out of Denver to
Las Vegas! We were sitting outside our gate for an hour and were confused as to how we could possibly miss our flight. I thought we were being
punk'd or that we had traveled into another dimension. As we walk to customer service to figure out how we can get out of Denver, my confusion turned into stupidity. How stupid am I that I missed my connecting flight while sitting outside the gate?!?! We reached customer service and then we see 6 other people who missed the same flight!
We were put on standby for the 6pm flight (our original flight was 420). Frontier overbooked the 6pm flight so some of the paid customers who were supposed to be on the 6pm flight didn't even get on. So, that means none of the standby did either. So, that automatically bumped us back to the 10pm flight. That flight was also full, so it was unlikely that we'd get out of Denver that night. We walked back to customer service to see what our options were at this point. There, we found 2 additional people who missed the same 420 flight to Vegas (total now is 10 people, including us). All of us were sitting at our gate and none of us heard them call our flight nor did we even see anyone board the plane! Our first inclination was that the 420 flight was overbooked like the 6 and 10pm flights and that maybe that is why they did not call the 10 passengers names that were missing on their flight. Customer service says that's impossible, of course. We asked to speak to the supervisor and he also told us that's impossible. We found out there was a 715 am flight leaving the next day and had 16 open seats. We asked if he could get us confirmed seats on that plane since it was not looking good for the 10pm flight. He said nope! Our option was to fly standby or come back at 5am and he would give us confirmed seats for $150 per seat! He then said well, that's my answer, so....
To make an even longer story shorter, Southwest Airlines was able to get us out of Denver and to Vegas that night. We, of course, had to pay for that one-way ticket, but it was worth it to us by this point. The really great part is when we finally land, I go to Frontiers baggage claim to get my bag that arrived at 5pm earlier that day. Frontier is the only baggage claim closed! Sign on the door said to call the number provided if someone is not in the office. The number just rang and rang. We waited for an hour and a half for someone to finally arrive to let us in. The really crappy part was I could see my bag through the window. So close, yet so far away!
We were pretty exhausted by the time we got back to our room. Poor Jenn got to the airport when our flight landed, only to wait with us to get my bag. Andrea had the right idea - carry-
ons! I didn't think I could fit all my stuff in a carry-on so I didn't even try it. I should have though. Lesson learned.
Friday, we hung out at the pool and played with the girls,
Annison (5) and Lilly (3). These girls have to be the best behaved kids I've ever met! They are also very good sisters and I don't think I saw them fight once. Amazing! Jenn and Mitch are truly blessed! Hanging out with the girls definitely made me miss my Lexi bean even more!
We ate at a lot of great places. Friday night we went to the Palms and ate at Little Buddha. The food was delicious! Sushi, salads, lettuce wraps, shrimp tempura, egg rolls and plum wine! Who could ask for more? I was in heaven. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we had creme
brulee for dessert. Yum! After dinner, Jenn took us down to the strip to
sightsee a little bit. This was Andrea's first time there, so she was just in amazement of all the lights, the people, everything! The funniest thing was
Sephora on the strip. It's open till midnight and I needed lip gloss. So we go in about 1150 and look around. While I'm searching for lip gloss, little did we know what Andrea was doing. As we are leaving I notice Andrea looks different. Her nails are done, her lips and I swear her eyes were made up too (although she promises she didn't do her eyes). It was the funniest thing!!! I wonder if the employees saw her sitting on the ground doing her nails and what they thought. They probably see a lot of crazier things on the strip.
The whole trip was fun. We played dress up with
Annison and Lilly and
reenacted Cinderella. We shopped. We ate the best Thai food I've ever had. We had a great time! Thanks to Jenn and Mitch for entertaining us!
We got home Sunday with no problems, thank goodness! Only problem was when I got my bag in Wichita it had a nice hole that went all the way through to my clothes. When I got it home and opened it up the metal bar on one side was completely bent in. Needless to say someone threw, kicked, stabbed my bag at some point between Vegas to Wichita. Did I mention?
Never. Fly. Frontier.
